Dance, move, decompress, release, and be moved by the sounds of dj James Adams, a practicing physician who also has a desire to inspire folks through his dj'ing. One who likes to think of his style as multi-dimensional albeit delightful and even soul-gripping, James might incorporate tribal basslines in with disco house anthems, modern alternative rock instruments, soul diva vocals, and even classic rock riffs with Swedish roll synths to move his dancers and audience. He is influenced by a vast array of musical talents, but his favorites include Led Zeppelin, the Smiths and Morrissey, U2, the Pet Shop Boys, Pink Floyd, the Killers, the Ting Tings, Shiny Toy Guns, The Smashing Pumpkins, The Connells, The Cure, Maroon 5, Ne-Yo, Beyonce, Madonna, Chicane, Matt Darey, Chris Lake, Thomas Gold, Ian Carey, Niels Van Gogh, Roger Sanchez, and the list goes on and on. He certainly enjoys playing to the crowd and giving them the Britney, Gaga, and Madonna that they want (“within reason,” he added), but he very much enjoys taking his dancers to places where they might be reticent to journey to initially, but after letting their guards down, embrace the new sounds. Born in Rocky Mount, NC, James is a Korean-American who makes a living as a family physician by day and house dj by night. As an experienced dance event enthusiast who has a long history of enjoying dance music from the 80s to the present, James enjoys moving his dancers to the sounds of his house music. His style has been molded by his following and enjoyment of several notable talented djs, ranging from those who might be considered famous to others who might have been more locally appreciated. When asked about who might have been of particular influence, he responded, “Stuart Gardner (rest his soul) from Atlanta propelled my love and appreciation for house music (Stuart was a former resident dj of the iconic club, "Backstreet Atlanta" in the 90s, of which James frequented during his few years living and working in Atlanta between college and medical school), but I also have to credit several others who have influenced me: Dan de Leon from LA has been a great teacher and commendable example. "We (Dan and I) are constantly bouncing things off of each other back and forth, still," chuckles Adams. "I will always love Lydia, and I certainly credit my friend and contemporary, Christopher B, from San Francisco for opening my ears AND eyes to the importance of "mixing in key" and striving to be technically sound while playing.” He also credits several other djs, in no order of importance, who have influenced his style: Michael Fierman, Alyson Calagna, Twisted Dee, Susan Morabito, Buc, Mark MacEwan, David Knapp, Rick Mitchell, Joey from Raleigh, Ralphi Rosario and Abel (absolutely INCREDIBLE especially when they are together), Phil B, Joe Gauthreaux, Greg Drescher, Tony Moran, Peter Rauhofer, Offer Nissim, Manny Lehman, Benny Benassi, Kaskade, and Cary Stringfellow (God rest his delightful soul). James has dj’ed at several local San Diego nightclubs and hot spots, including The Flame, Bourbon Street, Rich’s, Spin, and most recently, Eden in Hillcrest. He is excited about the prospects of increasing his fan base and visibility to the San Diego community and hopefully expanding his experiences beyond his current home city. “Thank you to all of my fans, friends, and supporters who have welcomed me and encouraged me warmly; I hope to continue progressing as an artist and learner and I hope to see you on the dance floor in the future.” He wishes everyone well, to party safely and sanely, and to enjoy the ride.
